There’s a sweet spot between personal training and a packed gym class. Personal training gives you individual attention but can feel intense (and expensive). A gym class of 40 people gives you energy but zero personalisation. Small group training gives you the best of each.
At Rush PT, our sessions are capped so everyone gets coaching, correction, and attention. You’re not just a body in a crowd. You’re part of a crew.
Coaching That Actually Reaches You
In a big class, the instructor can’t watch everyone. They’re projecting to the room, cueing general movements, and hoping for the best. If your form breaks down, nobody notices. If you’re doing an exercise wrong, nobody corrects you.
In a small group, I can see every person. I can adjust your squat depth, fix your push-up hand position, or scale an exercise up or down based on how you’re moving that day. You get the technical coaching of personal training within a group environment.
This matters more than people realise. Proper form isn’t just about preventing injury (though it does that too). It’s about making sure the right muscles are doing the work. Better form means better results from the same effort.
Accountability Without Pressure
When you train alone, nobody notices if you skip a session. When you train in a small group, people notice. Not in a judgemental way. In a “hey, we missed you on Tuesday” way.
That gentle accountability is incredibly effective. You don’t want to be the person who keeps not showing up. You don’t want to let the group down. So you set your alarm, put your shoes on, and go. Even on the days you don’t feel like it.
This is why our retention rates for group training are significantly higher than for solo gym memberships. People stay because other people are expecting them.
The Energy of Training Together
There’s something about training alongside other people that pushes you harder than you’d push yourself. When the person next to you is grinding through the last set, you dig a bit deeper. When the group is counting down the final 10 seconds of a hold, you hang on.
This isn’t just anecdotal. Research consistently shows that people exercise harder and longer when training with others compared to training alone. The group effect is real.
Scalable for Every Level
One of the biggest fears people have about group training is that they won’t be able to keep up. That fear keeps a lot of people from starting. But in a well-run small group session, every exercise has options.
Can’t do a full push-up? Do them on your knees or on an incline. Burpees too intense? We’ve got a step-back variation that’s still challenging but achievable. Already fit? Here’s the advanced option to keep you honest.
Everyone works at their level. Everyone works hard. Nobody gets left behind.
More Affordable Than PT
Let’s talk money. Personal training in Sydney runs anywhere from $80 to $150 per session. For most people, that’s not sustainable long-term. You might manage it for a month, but three sessions a week at $100 each? That’s $1,200 a month.
Small group training gives you quality coaching at a fraction of the cost. You still get the expertise, the programming, and the attention. You just share the session with a few other people. For most people’s goals, that’s more than enough.
It’s Actually Fun
Training should be something you enjoy, not something you dread. And small group sessions are genuinely fun. The banter, the shared suffering, the high-fives after a tough session. It builds a community that goes beyond the workout.
Some of our longest-standing members joined for the fitness and stayed for the people. That says a lot about the power of training in a group.
